Kalapana Obake
Description:
The spathe on “Kalapana” measures 8 inches long and 7 inches wide, and is broad and heart-shaped. The spadix is yellow-orange-red when young, and white when mature. The spathe is glossy dark red (RHSCC 45C) with green lobes. Flower yield averaged 6.0 flowers per plant per year, which can be considered very good for an obake multi-color variety.
The flower is resistant to anthracnose and tolerant to the systemic phase of bacterial blight.
Unique Properties:
Named to commemorate the lava flow of Kalapana, and remembrance of the major loss of Kaimu Bay and its community.
